Services

We offer a complete design process for clients who need a product developed. We work with you where our expertise is needed. That covers not only industrial product development, but also the visual side for marketing and product presentation. For a more complete experience of your product and brand, we combine this with service design and interaction design. Read more about the team behind the work.

Product design

3D modeling, renders and visualization

Product development and concept development

Industrial design, CAD and production readiness

Electronics design

For products with electronics we have the resources and competence to develop circuit boards, schematics, component selection, placement, production readiness and documentation. In close collaboration with experienced electronics engineers and a manufacturer in Østfold we can also take circuit series production locally.

Circuit design

Schematics, component selection, validation and design review.

PCB design

2–8+ layer layout, EMC-aware routing, DFM and clean documentation.

Firmware development

Arduino/ESP32/ESP8266 — from prototype to stable releases.

Form follows function. Still.

Process

The full product development cycle can be described in six main phases, each with smaller steps. The process is often not linear, but spiral-shaped: in dialogue with the client we run iterations, offer variations and develop solutions.

Analysis

user research, market research, field study, mapping, requirements specification

Concept development

sketching, idea development, concept development, solution proposals, quick visualizations

Form development

detailed sketches, 3D model, form exploration, function analysis, material choice, mock-ups — see industrial design

Visualization

Quality stills, animation, images and video, use in context and surroundings

Prototype

Physical testing: ergonomics, form, functions, materials, design language, use situations. Read how to make a prototype

Validation

Confirm and validate choices, final CAD model, tolerances, production costing, production prep, technical drawings. See from invention to production

Workshops and production

Norwegian workshop with wood, metal and plastic — prototypes, machines and material scraps

Workshop

We have access to a wide range of workshops for wood, metal, plastic and textile development, including 3D printers and CNC machines for prototypes or small-batch products.

Production in Norway

We are in dialogue with potential partners for production in Norway and actively building contacts for more varied production types — with local labour and Norwegian raw materials where possible, for shorter and safer transport routes and more sustainable production.

Production abroad

We work with companies that have their own production in China, long experience with shipping and logistics to Europe, and certified validation against relevant standards — from CE marking and production testing to quality control before shipment.

In parallel we are talking with several suppliers in Europe and Scandinavia, expanding capacity across materials and volumes — so we can find the right solution for prototypes, low-volume runs and larger series.

What product development will be like for you

In every project we focus on clear communication with the client throughout. We aim to act as partners and show that we care about your success. That is why we work closely with you and use our competence and experience to make the path from idea to launch more realistic. See example work on our project pages.

We help startups, founders and companies in Norway with industrial design, product design and product development. Our competence can support every phase: concept development, prototyping and visualization — and what it takes to succeed in the market.

Why Formaa with two a’s? Because “forma” was taken — so we added an a. It does not change what we can do. Formaa delivers services in Oslo, Akershus (Viken), Buskerud and Østfold with personal consultation and hands-on prototype collaboration, and supports the rest of Norway digitally. You can get one engaged design team across all phases, or stand-alone services where you need them. See pricing or send a request via the contact form.

How we proceed

After you send a request, we contact you to schedule our first meeting — in person or online:

A consultation to understand what you need help with. We listen carefully, take notes and ask questions to understand you as well as possible.

We prepare an execution plan with a price estimate and timeline and send it to you by email.

You choose whether to accept the offer, suggest changes, or decline.
